GOVERNOR DAVIS SIGNS BILL CREATING VOLUNTARY FUND TO RESTORE AND REPAIR CALIFORNIA MISSIONS 09/26/2003 SACRAMENTO
Governor Gray Davis has signed legislation establishing the California Missions Foundation Fund which allows taxpayers to voluntarily designate their own funds via their personal income tax return to help restore and repair the California missions, their artwork and artifacts.
"The California missions are California's most visited historical sites," Governor Davis said. "These landmarks have stood for more than two centuries. The funds generated as a result of this bill will help preserve these precious historical sites for future generations of Californians."
SB 92 is authored by Senator Jackie Speier (D-Hillsborough). The 21 historic Spanish missions are registered as California Historical Landmarks.
