GOVERNOR DAVIS SIGNS BILL TO ENCOURAGE THE CONSTRUCTION OF CHILD CARE FACILITIES 09/25/2003 SACRAMENTO
Governor Gray Davis has signed legislation that will encourage developers to include child care facilities in new housing projects.
"This bill will help low income families find suitable care for their children near their homes," Governor Davis said.
AB 305 by Assemblymember Gene Mullin (D-South San Francisco) requires cities or counties to grant developers an additional density bonus, concession, or incentive if a child care facility is included in a developer's housing project. The measure requires that the number of slots in the child care facility be available for children of low and moderate-income households. Local governments that have adequate childcare facilities based on substantial evidence are not required to provide the additional incentive or bonus.
