GOVERNOR DAVIS SIGNS LEGISLATION TO INCREASE STUDENT HOUSING IN SACRAMENTO 09/18/2003                                                            SACRAMENTO
Governor Gray Davis has signed legislation allows the Director of the Department of General Services (DGS) to negotiate the sale of state property in downtown Sacramento for use as student housing.
"Providing student housing close to the Capitol and other state agencies will make the UC program that provides public service experience to college students more successful," Governor Davis said.
AB 1570 by the Assembly Committee on Business and Professions authorizes DGS to sell state property at the corner of 12th and "O" Streets in Sacramento to provide housing for 24-30 University of California (UC) undergraduate students interning in Sacramento. The pilot program is modeled after the successful program that UC operates in Washington, D.C. The measure also enables DGS to develop uniform policies, procedures and processes to apply to all state contracts and procurements to ensure the outcomes are consistent and fair.
